BECKHOLE WICCA

(Coda to 25 nights in England)

They're an enterdent in a steep winding hill
      the Goathland miner's cottages

It's the Whitby road they're on
runs over the top of the moor

he said. You can see it from
      the village, standing
            there on the Goathland greens

Looking past the old steam railway
      Pickering to Grosmont.

They keep them clean, the Surveyor said,
Speaking of the steep steep roads --
We're used to snow up here.

& the exceptionally beautiful blonde good witch
the third man was careful to say
waits at the Inn on the Moor.

You can see her navel has been pierced
You can see her bare midriff
You can see her long long legs as she dances away
Near the path to Mallyan Spout

There's a sensuous Yorkshire lass with her horse
      rides down into yon Beckhole
& the beer they drink is called Black Dog
One hundred ninety nine steps arise
                                       to the blackened graves
                                at St. Mary's Church

& then go to your woman
      even should heather be blooming
            there's mist on the moor
& the sheep are there, their
                          eyes horizontal slits
the opposite of cats
